FEMA became part of the Department of Homeland auspices on March 1, 2003. Their mission is to reduce the loss of life and property and protect the Nation from any hazards, including natural disasters, acts of terrorism, and other man-made disasters (About USFA, n. d. ). The Department of Homeland Security was f ormed after the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.
